In Good Company Movie Review

January 12th, 2005

It was great! Topher Grace was very funny, great comic timing. The rest of the cast was also good. In Good Company is one of those “little films about life” that I seem to enjoy so much. The movie was true to current-day corporate life, with takeovers and layoffs, etc. There were several great lines in the film, and all-in-all, it was a light hearted fun movie with some emotional tug. It doesn’t play to what you expect and has some very enjoyable turns and developments. The soundtrack was great, I’m guessing someone from kcrw was the music director. I do think I had heightened expectations since About a Boy is one of my all-time favorites, In Good Company is a good follow up to About a Boy, although I think About a Boy was more my target audience. I recommend seeing In Good Company.

And, thanks to Grace Hill Media for putting together the chance for us to see the movie and meet some fellow bloggers (Kicking Over My Traces and Rene’s Ramblings). I’m looking forward to reading Rene’s Ramblings on the Dodgers.

Favorite: Kiss My Face Shaving Cream

January 11th, 2005

Kiss My Face Shaving Cream is simply the best shaving cream I have ever put on my face. It’s the greatest for many reasons. First, it’s simply a great shave. One of the only other products that I have used that rival Kiss My Face is Kiehl’s Shaving Cream. However, Kiss My Face lathers up so much more. And, (the second reason), it lasts so long and it’s so reasonably priced (Amazon has Kiss My Face for under $5 (12oz size), and it’s also available at Whole Foods). My favorite flavors are Mint, Virgin Forest and Lime (there’s also unscented).

Update: I am only a conduit for this information! We have my good bud to thank for our smooth, hairless skin. (see the comments).

In Good Company Blog Contest

January 10th, 2005

I recieved an email from Grace Hill Media, and it looks like I’ll be able to get free screening tickets! yay!
In the email was this info, to help spread the contest:

There’s been overwhelming response from bloggers responding to the offer for free tickets to an advance screening of IN GOOD COMPANY.
So Universal Pictures and Grace Hill Media wants to respond to that enthusiasm by upping the ante: any blogger who signs up for the free tickets and then posts this offer and a link to the IN GOOD COMPANY trailer on their site will be automatically entered in a contest to win their very own private screening of IN GOOD COMPANY in their town. The winner can either fill the screening with their friends and family, or see the film alone with that special someone – it’s entirely up to them. One lucky blogger here in the
US will win. Sign up at info@gracehillmedia.com and send us your link. And of course, all the non-winners will still be eligible to attend an advance screening in their area.

In Good Company

January 8th, 2005

About a Boy is one of my favorite films of the last few years (and, I did like American Pie). So, needless to say, I’m pretty excited about Paul Weitz‘s latest movie, In Good Company. The cast looks great, especially Scarlett Johansson and Topher Grace. I’m looking forward to seeing it. Also there is chatter about the blogsphere that there are perhaps free advance screening tickets (via Ed Brenegar) to be had in an effort to use blogs as grassroots marketing (via Hugh Hewitt). So, the movie itself warrants a post, but throw in the chance for freebies?? Yeah, it could only get better for me by somehow involving free grey tshirts (I like free tshirts, what can I say?).

Potato Salad at BCD Tofu House

January 7th, 2005

The potato salad at BCD Tofu House is the best potato salad I have ever put in my mouth. It actually comes free with your meal and the times that I have been there, I noticed that it went uneaten at a lot of tables. So, here’s the great business idea — I take all the uneaten potato salad off the hands of BCD Tofu House, ship it to the midwest (where potato salad is much more en vogue) and sell this most delicious potato salad for a tidy markup! We were thinking that there could even be a bus tour, to help get the word out. First stop — BCD Tofu House (have some Bibimbap and stock up on potato salad)!

Dodgers off-season make-over

January 5th, 2005

I, for one, am very excited about the off-season happenings with the Los Angeles Dodgers. This is the first winter for Paul DePodesta and he’s really making some big changes. He’s really making it HIS team (there was and is a lot of crap and extra baggage that he inherited). There has been a lot of criticism about the moves, most of it from sports journalists. I have found most of these articles to be so whinny and annoying. There is no way to know exactly what circumstances a GM is working under, and what the real dynamics at play truly are. We don’t have all the information the GM has, and therefore, we are not in a place to critique the moves they have made (it can be fun though). This, however, was a different article, and one I enjoyed, by Steve Henson, “Not Your Father’s Dodgers.” I appreciate a bit of optimism in sports articles, especially during the off-season, where we all hope that next year will be the year they win it all!

the old creosote bush

January 5th, 2005

Apparently the Creosote Bush (found at Joshua Tree National Park, among other places) can be up to 8,000 or 11,000 years old! Amazing! Just plain amazing! Nature is hella cool.
